The binaries built with the Colibri Linux board support package BSP or provided by a base support package or pro support package are pretty generic. This is good for the start of the development, but generally not optimal for production systems. Therefore vollmann engineering provides a range of customized images for the Colibri. The production image is a package that serves as a base for a field-use system. It comes with a generic kernel with all devices enabled, a production U-Boot bootloader and a basic OpenEmbedded-based JFFS2 filesystem flash image for direct startup in a standalone system. The filesystem image includes a generic set of applications and can be extended with additional packages from the vollmann engineering feed using the standard OpenEmbedded ipkg mechanism. The low power image is a package that is optimized to consume low power. It comes with a Linux kernel that only enables devices that are actually used and incorporates patches to allow correct sleep and frequency change functionality. The package includes an adapted U-Boot bootloader that allows correct wake-up after sleep. The package also includes an OpenEmbedded-based JFFS2 filesystem flash image that includes power management daemons. The quickstart image is a package that is optimized to short startup times. It comes with an optimized U-Boot bootloader for fast startup, a Linux kernel that only includes devices that are actually used for booting and a customized JFFS2 filesystem flash image with modules for devices not compiled into the kernel and optimized startup procedure to arrive at a pre-defined state as soon as possible after power-on. The real-time image is a package that provides standard real-time functionality. It comes with a Linux 2.6 kernel with several patches applied to provide good real-time functionality. Apart from the real-time specific patches, the kernel is a generic kernel with all devices enabled. The package comes with a production U-Boot bootloader and a basic OpenEmbedded-based JFFS2 filesystem flash image for direct startup in a standalone system. The filesystem image includes a generic set of applications and can be extended with additional packages from the vollmann engineering feed using the standard OpenEmbedded ipkg mechanism. The hard real-time image is a package that provides hard real-time functionality. It comes with a Linux 2.6 kernel with Xenomai/RTAI patches applied to provide hard real-time functionality. Apart from the real-time specific patches, the kernel is a generic kernel with all devices enabled. No Xenomai/RTAI drivers are included. Sometimes none of the above images fits the requirements, and a fully customized image is necessary. Such a package contain exactly those components that were fixed after a detailed review of the requirements. The support shop provides a comparison and administrative details of the different Colibri image offers. vollmann engineering will be happy to provide you with a custom offer specific to your needs. Please just send a request to Colibri info. |
